ATLANTIS: Insights From a Lost Civilization
by Shirley Andrews
Where and when was Lemuria? In the vicinity of the Pacific Ocean. Like Atlantis, this maritime civilization thrived on land that was once exposed, but today is covered by the sea. For more information click on Lemuria and Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future.
Where and when was Atlantis? On parts of the Atlantic Ridge from about 200,000 B.C. until10,000 B.C. Atlanteans also lived on the exposed continental shelves, during the height of the Ice Age, from about 28,000 B.C. to 10,000 B.C. and on a large island in the Caribbean now referred to as the Bahama Bank. What was life like in Lemuria? Fertile soil, readily available bananas, mangoes, cassava, plantain, taro, coconuts cashews and breadfruit assured that the people of Lemuria did not have to work hard to meet their daily needs. Spiritually evolved, they realized the importance of forgiveness, love and patience in their relations with everyone. During most of their history, they were not interested in material possessions, since they knew their friends would consider only what kind of a person they really were inside - the level of advancement of their soul. Considerate and kind, they lived together in groups where each individual spent their time contributing whatever he or she was best qualified to offer. To heighten their states of consciousness, Lemurians created lovely gardens full of waterfalls and exotic plants, that were available for contemplation and meditation. (Cerve, LEMURIA, p.152.)

What were the countrysides like? Both countries were beautiful - lush flowers, ferns and trees grew everywhere; hot springs, mountains and rivers created an interesting landscape.
What
were the people like? They were basically like us although they
had more highly developed psychic abilities. Many Lemurians and Atlanteans thought
one's life should be 50% material and 50% spiritual. They spent an immense amount of
time in contemplation and loving and helping others. The early Atlanteans and the people
of Lemuria lived in a peaceful society in complete harmony with their environment. They
had a deep respect for all aspects of the Earth and focused their lives around the plants,
the water, the animals, the stars and any other aspects of Nature which were available to
their senses. In the same intimate way that they associated with all Life around them,
they were interconnected to and cared about one another.

Why are there so few records about Lemuria and Atlantis? Lemuria and Atlantis sank 12,000 years ago. Twelve thousand years from now will be 14,000 A.D. That's a long time. Written information on anything but stone would have disintegrated, but there are many legends about both civilizations.
Were extraterrestrials really influential in Atlantis? Memories of past visitors from the skies were preserved in the histories of most ancient cultures around the world. Atlantis was an attractive place, especially during the Ice Age. There are many reasons to assume that, as Edgar Cayce, Ruth Montgomery and others tell us, extraterrestrials were in contact with Atlanteans. For more, see separate pages on Extraterrestrials in Prehistory and Extraterrestrials in Atlantis.
Is there any land that did not sink? Many islands in the Pacific, which were once part of Lemuria, have ruins of huge platforms, megalithic buildings, statues and roads leading into the sea. The Azores Islands were the mountain tops of Atlantis. The Canary and Cape Verde Islands and the island of Madeira were much higher before 10,000 BC. Bimini and parts of the Bahama Bank where Atlanteans lived are still above the surface.
Were
there any survivors? Many people left Atlantis before it
sank. The Basques believe they are descendants of Atlanteans, as do some Native
Americans. The ancestors of some Berber tribes in the Atlas mountains of North
Africa, and the Gaunches who once lived in the Canary Islands, were from Atlantis. As
described in Lemuria and Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future, recent results
from DNA testing reveal that descendants of survivors of both Lemuria and Atlantis are
living today.

Are there any remains? Remains of megalithic buildings off the coasts of Japan, Taiwan, India, Okinawa and elsewhere in the Pacific Ocean offer proof that a civilized people lived there before ocean waters rose about 10,000 B.C. A Soviet oceanographic expedition photographed some underwater ruins near the Azores which could well have been from the time of Atlantis. Also see Atlantis in the Caribbean.
Is anyone searching today? Americans are working in the area of Bimini and the Russians are searching off the coast of Great Britain. Representatives from many countries are hoping to gain access to the space under the Sphinx, hoping that, as Edgar Cayce said, it will offer information about Atlantis.
How
did you acquire so much information about Atlantis? My ten years of research included travel
to the Azores as well as to many libraries including the British Museum Library,
where I found unique books translated into English, and the Edgar Cayce Library in
Virginia Beach.
How did you acquire so much information about Lemuria? The works of Col. James Churchward, Cerve and Edgar Cayce's readings were all helpful in learning about Lemuria or, as it is also called, the Motherland of Mu.
